In celebration of the Development Policy Research Month (DPRM), the Western Visayas office (Region 6) of the National Economic Development Authority of the Philippines to invited our SlashIgnite Founder, Noreen Marian Bautista to present her strategic foresight and futures thinking research entitled “The Future of Philippine Local Innovation Ecosystems: The Case of Iloilo” during the 2020 Regional Research Utilization Virtual Forum on September 30, 2020.
As a candidate for Masters of Science in Innovation and Business at the Asian Institute of Management, Noreen wrote this foresight research for the Strategic Futures Thinking class.
COVID-19 brought to the foreground the importance of data and, consequently, emphasized the significance of research in producing relevant data. Government units and agencies as well as private sectors, who were weak in research and/or data banking, had a challenging time responding to their stakeholders’ needs during the pandemic. NEDA has always advocated for the importance of research and development (R and D), and research utilization. To this end, the conduct of the annual Regional Research and Utilization Forum (RRUF) is one such avenue to increase appreciation for and disseminate new R&D-based knowledge to target stakeholders. The event will help increase interest in R and D and showcase how R and D is invaluable, particularly in living in the new normal. This year’s theme is adopted from the DPRM theme - “Bouncing Back Together: Innovating Governance for the New Normal.” This theme was chosen to highlight the importance of innovating governance across all sectors of society to steer the country toward renewed growth and dynamism amidst COVID- 19 and environmental challenges.
Disseminating the findings and policy recommendations of the study to relevant stakeholders will provide valuable insights that they can use in policy-making, development planning, and program/project enhancement.
